Obituary of William Wood

William Wood, 92 of Phoenix, AZ formally of Newark, Springfield and Washington, NJ passed away peacefully on March 6, 2015 in Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. Born on June 25, 1922 in Newark, NJ to the late Gilbert and Louise Wood. William graduated from Central high School in Newark class of 1940. He served proudly in the US Navy as an Electricians Mate First Class during WWII. He was stationed aboard the Destroyer USS Rodman in the Atlantic and the Pacific theaters of action during the war. He was aboard the USS Rodman when it was nearly sunk by enemy aircraft. Bill was employed as a supervisor for Western Electric in Kearney, NJ for 44 years. Retiring in 1984. His loving wife Ruth passed away in 2004. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, NJ. Where he served on the church board of trustees. Bill was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was a past Master of the Kane Lodge in Newark in 1956. Survivors: by his children Gary Wood and his wife Linda; a daughter Ruth Wood. Services: Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday March 13, 2015 from 7-9 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday March 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Somerset Hills Memorial Park. 95 Mt. Airy Rd. Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Entombment will follow after the service. Memorial donations may be made in William's name to the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, 27 Church Mall, Springfield, NJ 07081.
